After Penn National Gaming purchased Barstool Sports for a large sum of money in 2020, the first thing that has been on every stoolie’s mind has been “When will Barstool Sportsbook launch?”. We are close to this, as a recent press release shows that Barstool Sportsbook could be launching for Week 1 of the NFL season in Pennsylvania, taking full advantage of the boom and return of sports betting. PA will be the first state to get a look at Barstool Sportsbook.

Barstool Sportsbook, via the parent company Penn National Gaming, announced via a press release that it plans to launch Barstool Sportsbook in September. Of course, this is terrific timing with the beginning of the NFL season along with the other three major sports in action, English Premier League, and more. A quote from Jay Snowden, CEO of Penn National Gaming states:
“We currently anticipate launching the app in Pennsylvania with additional states to follow throughout Q4-20 and Q1-21. We have already seen very high levels of interest in the Barstool Sportsbook app from the Barstool audience as well as on a wide range of social media platforms, and we are extremely excited about Barstool’s plans to introduce the app to their growing and loyal audience.”
Initially, Barstool Sportsbook was set to launch in August but with the coronavirus pandemic setting things behind, it makes sense for the delay. The rest of the press release detailed this in a way, showing a net loss of over $200M in the last few months. This was expected, of course. The growth of internet gaming during the pandemic is something to be optimistic about, along with the return of sports. One note to mention about the press release includes some exclusive betting types for Barstool Sports fans, including wagering against certain personalities. Want to bet against Big Cat or Dave Portnoy? You may be able to, soon.

Barstool Online Casino PA To Launch in 2021?
The Barstool Sportsbook is just one media arm of the Penn National Gaming rollout of the Barstool brand. It is expected that in 2021, the Barstool Online Casino will be available. Given how popular PA online casinos have been during the coronavirus pandemic and the stay-at-home orders forced retail casinos to close, the Barstool Casino will take advantage of a new slew of customers while capitalizing on the popularity of mobile gambling.
Barstool Sports obviously has a rabid following, and Penn National Gaming acquired a large portion of the company for that reason. It will be interesting to watch how the market share shifts with the Barstool brand operating in Pennsylvania.
