An extremely important part aspect of PA sports betting, is watching who the public is betting each week in the NFL. DraftKings Sportsbook, which will be going live in PA on Monday, has provided their NFL Week 9 public betting splits below.
Think about it this way: Sportsbooks aren’t in this industry to give money away for free. In Las Vegas, the books have not lost in a long time even for a month. Let alone a year. Therefore, the public is usually wrong (in the long run).
With that being said, the key is to find where the public will be correct and incorrect. That is one of the keys to being a successful bettor week in and week out.
Here’s the latest look at the Week 9 Public Betting numbers on DraftKings Sportsbook.
Who is the Public on?
|Teams||Spread||% Spread Handle||% Spread Bets||Money Line||Total Points|
Top Percentages (Handle)
Team, Spread, % of Handle
|SF 49ers (TNF: did not cover)||-10||93%|
On DraftKings Sportsbook, there are four games that currently have over 90% of the betting handle on the spread. All four are favorites.
This game has been back and forth as a pick ’em, but bettors on DraftKings Sportsbook are not fans of the Steelers. Pittsburgh is at home in Week 9, but bettors are siding with Frank Reich and the Indianapolis Colts to improve to 6-2 on the backs of Jacoby Brissett, Marlon Mack, and the Colts’ offensive line.
Green Bay Packers
In what could be the most exploitable line of Week 9, the Packers are only favored by 3.5 points against a beaten up Chargers team. Yea, the Chargers are at home but the Packers are one of the better teams in the NFL at 7-1, and Aaron Rodgers has been on fire with 734 yards and eight touchdowns in the last two weeks. With Davante Adams likely returning as well, this is a great line to exploit and 94% of the money is leaning that way.
Bettors don’t have much faith in Broncos’ QB Brandon Allen. With Joe Flacco being out for the next month (or more), Allen looks to be the QB for now, at least until Drew Lock is healthy. The Browns have struggled in their own rights this year, but the Broncos are without their starting QB and Philip Lindsay is nursing a wrist injury as well. The Browns are the far more talented team, and bettors seem to flow that way with 92% of the betting handle on Cleveland.
Top Percentages (Bets)
Team, Spread, % of Bets
|Team||Spread||% Handle||% Bets|
Two of the top three games in terms of handle also have the tops in terms of bets, the Packers and Colts. The Packers and Colts represent the two most-bet and highest liability for DraftKings Sportsbook in Week 9.
The Seahawks have 92% of the bets, but only 73% of the handle.
Seattle has significantly less of the betting handle on -6 (73%) as they do total bets (92%). This means one thing, someone has heavy money on the Tampa Bay Bucs on the road this week. This game has the highest total of Week 9, so a certain bettor (or group of bettors) seems to love this Bucs offense and Bruce Arians to score often against the Seahawks. Seattle is 3-5 against the spread this season, which is what makes the handle to bet disparity quite interesting.
There is only one underdog that has the majority of the total bets and the betting handle on them this week
Detroit Lions (Dog Money)
The Lions are +2 against the Oakland Raiders, and are currently receiving 74% of the bets, and 63% of the handle. They are the only underdog that has more liability for DraftKings Sportsbook in Week 9.
Week 9 is expected to be a crazy one, with 6-8 home underdogs (some are pick ’ems depending on what time you view the odds). Take advantage, on DraftKings Sportsbook app.
