The Philadelphia Flyers have officially clinched a playoff berth! In the strangest NHL season yet, the Flyers have become the official “fourth seed” in the Eastern Conference based on the NHL and NHLPA’s agreement to resume the NHL with the beginning of the playoffs. That means we will once again be able to watch Flyers hockey, but not in the same way. There will be no fans, it will be in a secluded arena, but one thing is for certain.

There will be hockey to bet on.

There are only five teams ahead of the Flyers in terms of odds to win the Stanley Cup on DraftKings Sportsbook, the Lightning, Bruins, Golden Knights, Avalanche, and Capitals. This leaves the Flyers in good standing to be a potential Stanley Cup team in 2020. The Flyers were one of the hottest teams in the NHL before the league’s suspension due to the coronavirus pandemic, winning nine of their last 10 games. The Flyers stand at 41-21-7, trailing only three teams in the Eastern Conference. Some NHL analysts believe the Flyers are a true contender for the Stanley Cup behind young goaltender Carter Hart and a veteran presence of skaters.

Without a doubt, the Philadelphia Flyers are one of the clear threats in the Eastern Conference to represent the East in the Stanley Cup Finals. After the Tampa Bay Lightning (+300), and Boston Bruins (+350), the Flyers have the third-best odds (+500) to win the Eastern Conference. The question becomes with this new format, how can the Flyers win the East?

As you can see in the above tweet, the top four teams in the conference will play a “Round Robin” to determine the seeding for the first round. The Flyers are one of the teams, as they will compete with the Bruins, Capitals, and Lightning for the top overall spot. The rest of the eight teams will play a series (best of five games) to determine who advances. The Flyers areΒ not a part of this, and will have their winner determined by the series. Is this good or bad? Hypothetically, the Flyers’ opponent likely will have more games played as they enter the series in the first round of the playoffs. Does this give the Flyers an advantage? All playersΒ should have fresh legs, but they also may be out of game shape. More games could be good in this situation.

Either way, the Flyers have a chance to win the Stanley Cup, and it’s time to bet on hockey at DraftKings Sportsbook again.
