The Pittsburgh Penguins will be playing playoff hockey in 2020. Well, maybe. With the NHL and NHLPA agreeing to finish the NHL season in a unique tournament structure, the Penguins will take on the Montreal Canadiens in a five-game series to determine which team will reach the “first round” of the NHL Playoffs. While the date is not set, one thing is for certain. Pennsylvanians will be able to wager on playoff hockey, and can do so already for the futures market at DraftKings Sportsbook. Let’s look at the Penguins’ odds to win the Stanley Cup, the Eastern Conference, and their five-game series against the rival Montreal Canadiens.

The Penguins are ninth on the board at DraftKings Sportsbook PA in terms of odds to win the Stanley Cup Finals, but one of the teams highest on the list that plays in the first series. Given that they are -195 to win their first series against the Canadiens, that is no surprise. Of course, the Penguins will be relying on a healthy Sidney Crosby to win the Finals again in 2020, but Evgeni Malkin has had a terrific year for the Pens, as he is one of the leaders in assists in the Eastern Conference. This is not the traditional Penguins team, and they will have to fight for a chance at the Cup.
Penguins Eastern Conference Champions Odds
Team | Odds to Win Eastern Conference |
TB Lightning | +300 |
BOS Bruins | +350 |
PHI Flyers | +500 |
WSH Capitals | +500 |
PIT Penguins | +800 |
TOR Maple Leafs | +1300 |

The Penguins have the highest odds among all teams playing in the first series to win the Eastern Conference, as they come in at +800 at DraftKings Sportsbook. This clearly indicates they are favored to reach the “first round”, but it also shows that the Pens could make some serious noise should they advance past the first series. With a healthy Sidney Crosby, anything is possible.

DraftKings Sportsbook is heavily favoring the Penguins, which is likely due to the health of their superstars. Can the Canadiens pull off an upset? Not likely, per DraftKings’ odds.
