Just In: Penn National Gaming, Inc. acquires
a 36% interest in Barstool Sports, Inc.
— Brian Steinberg (@bristei) January 29, 2020
The biggest news of Barstool Sports in 2020 so far was started by a massive acquisition by Penn National Gaming, who bought 36% of Barstool Sports in exchange for a large sum of money that valued Barstool at nearly $500M. With this came the return of Barstool being the marketing arm for Penn National Gaming casino properties, which will result in a large number of Barstool Sports fans flocking to the Penn National Gaming properties. Essentially, this deal was a massive marketing play by Penn National Gaming.
The merger resulted in a large influx of cash coming into the company, which has led to the development of a Barstool Sportsbook app, set to be ready in early fall 2020.
